Abstract: The modified extended tanh-function methodisemployed to solve the dampednonlinear Schrödinger equation with the aid of symbolic computation, anda series of exact solitary wave solutions are obtained, some of solutionsexhibit shape changing propertieswhich can be adjusted bythe nonlocal damping parameter.
